A Pierce County man was diagnosed July 13 with colonization due to Candida auris, a multidrug-resistant fungus that can cause serious infections. It’s believed to be the first locally acquired case in Washington.

Woman recovering from rare tickborne disease in Pierce County
A Pierce County woman is recovering from a tickborne disease called anaplasmosis. This is the second report of anaplasmosis due to exposure in Washington. The disease usually causes mild to moderate symptoms and is much more common in the upper midwestern and northeastern United States.
